About

Rebecca spent most of her childhood in Herefordshire where she lived in a remote location without electricity. Throughout her life she has been fascinated by the objects we collect and surround ourselves with. This magpie element has inspired her work, where found pieces of pottery and other objects have made their way into her art, reflecting her childhood fascination for what she describes as “treasure hunting”.

Rebecca’s move to Presteigne, Wales, in 2022 represented a vital new beginning, yet it has also been a homecoming. Her ties to the town are connected to renowned South African painter Cecily Sash, whose classes Rebecca attended at both age 8 and 18.

During the eight years Rebecca lived in Portugal, colour became an increasingly important element of her work, leading her to experiment in combining collage and paint. She believes the light of the Portuguese sun brought her painting alive and inspired new ideas and direction.

Captivated by the folklore and culture of Wales, Rebecca has drawn parallels between the textile, ceramic, and historic traditions with those of Portugal, which she hopes will continue to inspire her. Exhibiting her work at The Judge's Lodging has allowsed her to gather her paintings into an atmospheric and historic exhibition space.

Rebecca obtained a Master of Arts in 2015 from Hereford College of Arts, a Bachelor of Arts, BA(Hons), in 1992 at Bradford and a National Diploma in Applied Art and Design in 1988 from Hereford College of Arts.

During her career she has exhibited her work in Germany, Portugal and in the UK.
